Our effectiveness is guaranteed by our officers’ commitment and by modern technology. We hope to have some interesting meetings with the manufacturers at the 10th BALT-MILITARY-EXPO Baltic Military Fair. We expect to find an abundant exhibition, state-of-the-art arms and equipment for defence, security and rescue at sea and on the coast.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Time flies, doesn’t it…?

This commonly known thought seems to be especially pertinent today. This is because this year we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the BALT-MILITARY-EXPO Baltic Military Fair the SAFETY Rescue and Safety Fair. Anniversaries make one want to reflect on the road we have travelled together and the achievements we have made. The Border Guard has also had the privilege and the pleasure to take part in these Fairs and to share its abundant experience.

The ongoing upgrading of all our equipment, the procurement of new vessels and aircraft, the development of the Automatic Radar Surveillance System over the Polish territorial waters, the replacement of vehicles, the improvement of organisational structure, the specialist training of our personnel, the development and implementation of the comprehensive protection of the maritime section of our national border serves today to effectively carry out the tasks which lie before our service as part of the protection of the external border of the Schengen zone, which Poland joined on December 21 last year.

The challenges which the Border Guard, including its Maritime Regional Unit, is now facing include the requirement to organise professional clearance at airport and maritime border crossings, securing conditions for the effective entrance control of foreigners, efficient control of freight traffic, effective police co-operation with the border and customs services of many countries, especially in the Baltic Sea Region. The challenge is also to be capable to focus our operations at border crossings at the main lines of threat and to effectively counter illegal migration, the counterfeiting of documents which enable crossing the border, terrorism, smuggling of narcotics, radioactive materials, arms and other dangerous materials, products covered by excise tax, stolen vehicles, stop wanted persons and personae non gratae at the border. Last but not least, this means operations on transport routes and on Polish territorial waters.

Summarising our preparations so far to fulfil the obligations ensuing from the directions of change we have adopted and are consistently implementing, we can unequivocally say that we have become a highly professional and modern border service, which effectively abates trans-border crime to meet EU standards and expectations.
