More than 130 Polish and international exhibitors presented their cutting-edge

equipment and gear at the 11th BALT-MILITARY-EXPO Baltic Military Fair, concluded on June 25, under the auspices of Poland’s Minister of National Defence Bogdan Klich. BME was accompanied by two specialist exhibitions on maritime topics: The SAFETY Fair of Rescue, Safety, Personal and Facility Security and – for the first time ever – The Baltic Maritime Economy Showroom organised in partnership with and under the auspices of Poland’s Ministry of Infrastructure.

 

The opening ceremony was attended by national government representatives, MPs, ambassadors, consuls, commercial advisers and numerous diplomats.

 

The event’s Guests of Honour included:

BALT- MILITARY- EXPO was also visited by: Minister Stanisław Chmielewski – Secretary of State, Poland's Ministry of Justice, Colonel (Border Guard) Leszek Elas – Chief Commander, Polish Border Guard, Colonel (Border Guard) Marek Borkowski – Deputy Chief Commander, Polish Border Guard, Col Kajetan Dubiel – Director General, Central Board of Prison Service, Members of the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Poland from the Republic of Yemen, People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, Kingdom of Norway, Russian Federation, Republic of Indonesia, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Republic of Angola and Republic of South Africa. The Fair was visited by a delegation from the Polish Police General HQ lead by Chief Inspector Piotr Kucia – Head of the HQ Logistics Bureau.

 

The Fairs had a footfall of four thousand visitors including the representatives of the Military Attaché Corps accredited in Poland, Poland’s Ministry of National Defence, Ministry of Interior and Administration, Ministry of the Economy, Ministry of Infrastructure, Ministry of Justice, General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces, Polish Navy Command, Polish Land Forces Command, Polish Air Force Command, the HQs of the Polish Border Guard, Police, State Fire Service, Central Board of Prison Service and Departments of Crisis Management, Civil Protection and Defence.

    

On display were products from leading Polish and international manufacturers of defence, safety, security and rescue technology, designed – just as the side event agenda – to meet the upgrade requirements of the Polish Armed Forces, especially the Navy and services subject to Poland’s Ministry of Interior and Administration.

BALT-MILITARY-EXPO and SAFETY 2010 included:

 

- The 2nd Conference on The current state and development prospects of the Polish

   Navy, organised in close partnership with the Polish Navy Command and the Polish

   Naval Academy (AMW)

- The 7th International Conference on Rescue, Safety, Security and Defence 

  Systems: Prospects and Development in the 21st Century

- a show of uniforms and footgear for the Navy, Border Guard and the Police – 

  organised by W. L. Gore & Associates Poland

- equipment and rescue operation shows by the Gdańsk City Headquarters of the

  State Fire Service, Polish Professional Paramedic Association (SZRM) – road and

  high-altitude rescue and Specialist Search and Rescue Group

- combat efficiency shows by the Independent Counter-terrorist Sub-unit of the

  Police in Gdańsk

- A New Era in Firefighting – presentation of safe fire extinguishing through a wall

- a conference on Practical aspects of person evacuation from sports and

  entertainment facilities by the Voivodship (Regional) Headquarters of the State Fire

  Service in Gdańsk and Polish Association of Fire Engineers and Technicians

- a seminar on Risk map of the primary road network in the Pomorskie Voivodship

  (Pomerania Region), 2007- 2009, organised by the Pomerania Traffic Safety Council

  (PRBRD), Traffic Department at the Voivodship (Regional) Police Headquarters in

  Gdańsk and Civil Engineering Development Foundation (FRIL)

- a seminar on Treatment of a trauma patient in places difficult to access and first aid

  workshop for soldiers and combat unit officers, organised by the Polish Professional

  Paramedic Association (SZRM)

- a seminar on Innovative solutions for the future of a modern traffic control and

  surveillance system, organised by the Voivodship (Regional) Police Headquarters in

  Gdańsk

- advice and consultation by the KSOIN National Classified Information Protection

   Society at the KSOIN stand.

 

As always, the Ship Model Exhibition featured pieces by the Maritime Micro-Modellers’ Club of Rumia, the Gdańsk CONRADINUM Shipbuilding and Secondary Schools and more. BME traditionally featured parade drill shows by the Representative Military Band of the Polish Navy and the Maritime Regional Unit of the Border Guard.

 

In parallel with BME, the first ever edition of The Baltic Maritime Economy Showroom was held.  The Showroom’s mission is to create, in partnership with ports, maritime administration, local government and shipbuilding industry, an exhibition and trade event to support the development of the maritime and coastal economy. The project was accompanied by a number of events dedicated to vital economy and management issues. June 24 featured a debate on The development of sea ports as a factor to enhance the transportation system, with participants including Anna Wypych-Namiotko, Undersecretary of State at Poland’s Ministry of Infrastructure.  The discussion addressed the promotion of the development of the South Baltic Arc transport corridor. The Showroom also included a conference (June 23, Gdynia, the Sea Towers building) on The Baltic-Adriatic Transport Corridor, organised by the Economic Development Department at the Pomorskie Voivodship (Region) Marshal’s Office, Gdynia Development Office and Amber Road Cities Association.  The conference agenda featured the signing of a letter of intent to strengthen the trans-regional cooperation towards creating development conditions for the Baltic-Adriatic Transport Corridor in Poland.
